Five From Far Rockaway

Good Day Friends!

I have posted five images from Far Rockaway Beach in 2011. I’m putting these up primarily as part of my goal to go revisit my old work and edit, select, and add it to my online portfolio.

Toned Black and white image from Far Rockaway New York

These are five out of 39 images I took that day, my editing process is becoming ruthless.

Originally they were all color, but I decided on a sort toned black and white vibe; I felt these images needed something elevate them a bit. I do get a sense what and why I was shooting these images and what my intent was in each photo. A style that was beginning to take shape.  In the image titled “Sailboat”, I framed it so the pilings are pointing out to the sea and towards the a sailboat you see in the distance. The sailboat is a very small element of the image, but the pilings bring it to your attention, making that the focus of the image.

In the other four,  I’ve used the elements in each image to give them a more graphic feel. I gave the framing and placements of the elements priority so that they divide the image into two or three segments.

Of course, I do believe one of the great aspects of photography is that everybody can see the image differently and walk away with a different interpretation of the image.  In retrospect in I can see how my vision or how my style is evolving as time goes on.

My hope is that they evoke some sort of response from you, the viewer.
